40 years after the November 1982 release of Microsoft Flight Simulator 1.0, Microsoft and Asobo just delivered an enormous and free update to MSFS. Released yesterday, the 40th Anniversary Edition brings long-awaited helicopter and glider support to the platform alongside plenty of nostalgia. The full feature list includes four classic airports, headlined by Chicago’s Meigs Field—the original ‘starting point’ of the franchise prior to FSX. MSFS users will find a new airliner from iniBuilds along with 2 helicopters, 14 heliports, 2 gliders, 15 glider airports, 7 famous historical aircraft, and 24 classic missions from previous editions. Flight simulation developers Aeroplane Heaven, Blackbird Simulations, Gaya Simulations, iniBuilds, and more contributed content to this free release.
